Arlo Security Camera Setup – The Entire Procedure

Arlo setup is a process that is divided into four parts. Follow the parts in the right order to successfully set up Arlo Camera.

Arlo Base Station Setup

Arlo Base Station is the unit that connects your home network to Arlo security cameras, and it is a unit without which, you can’t expect your Arlo cameras to work. So, make sure to install Arlo Base Station in order to carry out a successful Arlo Pro2 setup.

Steps for Installing Arlo Base Station:

  1. Connect Arlo Base Station to your router via an Ethernet cable.
  2. Plugin the power cord to the power port of Arlo Base Station with its other end going into the power outlet. Turn the switch on to turn on the Arlo Base Station.
  3. On your Arlo Base Station, there will be an on/off button, which you will have to press.
  4. Wait until the power & internet LED light goes green.
  5. When both the LEDs are green, your Base Station is set up.

Registering Your Arlo Account

Once you have set up your Arlo Base Station, the next step is to register for the Arlo account.

You should have an Arlo account, which also needs to be linked with Arlo System, as it allows you access to the video recording on any mobile or computer connected to the internet. You also have the opportunity to download Arlo app on your smartphone or tablet for an amazing viewing experience.

Steps to register for an Arlo Login My Account:

  1. The registration process begins with launching a web browser on your PC or smartphone and entering Arlo Netgear com login in the address bar.
  2. As the website opens, click ‘New System Setup’ and then, enter Arlo camera login details in the required fields. After that, click ‘Continue’.
  3. Now, select the serial number of Arlo Base station from the drop-down menu followed by clicking ‘Continue’.

  3. You will see a blue LED blinking on the camera, which basically confirms the syncing process. If the LED blinks amber, then it means the sync is unsuccessful and so, you’ll have to repeat the process.
  4. A solid green light on the camera LED on the Arlo Base station means the completion of the sync process.
  5. The process remains the same for other cameras.

Note: If the syncing of the cameras with Base Station doesn’t complete within a minute, then you will have to press the sync button provided on the Arlo Base Station and try the entire process again.

Set Up Modes:

A setup mode is known for setting and controlling automated actions. These modes allow you to monitor your camera without doing Arlo login.

There are two modes, which Arlo cameras are configured with:

  1. All motion on mode – If this mode is turned on, then you will see a motion sensor being turned on at all times without changing the Arlo sensitivity setting. Therefore, any motion detected by the camera will trigger the camera to record a video clip followed by sending the same to an email account of the person having the main account on Arlo.
  2. All motion off mode – In this mode, no motion sensors will be active and there won’t be any video recording or any motion alerts to send via email.

Having an Arlo account is important for controlling and configuring the cameras from anywhere. For creating an account on Netgear Arlo, you will need a base station along with a working internet connection.

  1. On your PC or smartphone, launch a web browser and enter https Arlo Netgear com or Arlo com login in the address bar. Once typed, press ‘Enter’.
  2. Click on the option labeled as ‘Arlo New System Setup’.

Here is how to factory reset Base Station:

  1. On the back of Arlo Base Station, the reset button is present, so press and hold it using a pointed object for around 7-10 seconds.
  2. As you press the reset button, the front LEDs will flash amber light. As the light stops flashing the amber light, Arlo Base Station reboots and will be reset to default settings. Resetting Base station will also remove it from the Arlo account.
  3. Now, perform Netgear Arlo login using the Arlo app or web browser, but only after you see the green light flashing on power and internet LEDs.

Arlo Camera Unable To Sync With Arlo Base Station

At times, while doing Netgear Arlo setup with the existing system can result in failure of the camera to sync with the base station. The camera needs to be synced if it has to be detected by the Base station.

If you are dealing with the syncing problem, then follow these steps to fix it:

  1. Keep Arlo camera and Base station close to each other. If both devices are kept far away from each other, then the syncing process will be disrupted.
  2. Now, keep in mind to press ‘Sync’ buttons in the right order and right duration. In Arlo Base Station, the ‘Sync’ button is located on its side, so press it for a couple of seconds and then release it.

How To Check Arlo Camera’s Battery Status?

Arlo cameras work on battery power, which makes the batteries installed on the cameras extremely important. If the batteries are low on power, then the cameras won’t work efficiently.

To check the status of Arlo camera’s battery, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Arlo account via the Arlo app or by visiting my Arlo com webpage.
  2. Go to ‘Menu’ and then, click ‘Device Settings’.
  3. Now, you will see battery status on the ‘Device Settings’ page.

Checking The Status Of Base Station

It is important to check the status of Arlo Base Station because if it isn’t activated, then Arlo cameras won’t sync to it.

Here is how you can check the status of Arlo Base Station:

  1. On your PC or smartphone, launch a web browser and enter my.arlo.com website or launch Arlo app respectively. After that, you need to enter the Arlo Pro login details.
  2. Then, go to ‘Settings’ followed by clicking ‘My Devices’.
  3. Select your Arlo Base Station from the list and then, you will see the device settings.

How To Restore An ‘Offline Arlo Base Station’?

Arlo Base Station has an internet LED on the front, which helps in knowing whether the Base Station is online or not. If you see a solid green light on the internet LED, then it means, the base station is connected to the internet. If there is an amber light on the internet LED, then it means, the base station isn’t connected to the internet, or offline.

To fix it, follow below-mentioned steps:

  1. Check if the Ethernet cable is connected to the back of the Arlo Base Station and your router.
  2. Check if the Base Station is connected to the power outlet.
  3. Try connecting from one of your devices, which is connected to your router.
  4. Power cycle the Arlo Base Station by taking off the power supply and then connecting it back to the power outlet after a minute or so. The base station takes a couple of minutes to start.
  5. The light on the power & internet LED will glow solid green, which means the base station is connected to the internet. If it is amber, then continue with the below-mentioned steps.
  6. Make sure to enable DHCP and confirm that the DHCP client of the router delivers an IP address to the base station.
  7. If you can’t connect to the internet, but were able to connect previously, then check the firmware and security settings of the router to ensure that no changes are made there.
  8. At last, the factory reset your Arlo Base Station. The ‘Reset’ button is located on the back of Arlo Base Station, so press and hold it using a pointed object for 7-10 seconds. The LEDs on the front of the base station will flash amber light for a few moments, after which, the base station will reboot and reset to default settings.
